Clampdown on uninsured drivers will help keep vehicle insurance costs down

You may have already heard about the increasing numbers of uninsured vehicles being seized by the police under powers introduced in August 2005.   Nearly 30,000 have been seized to date – that’s enough cars to fill the Channel Tunnel nose to tail, in both directions. This is great news for the honest motorist who are subsidising these cheats.

However, you may not know that the accuracy and currency of the MID has a direct impact on the success of this campaign to take uninsured vehicles off the roads.

Every month the Motors Insurers Bureau (MIB) sends lists of vehicles to the police, which are suspected of being uninsured – this list shows vehicles that have vanished from the MID, and not reappeared for sometime

Did You Know?

In the first 9 months of last year, the police made 18,162,200 enquiries of the MID. That’s one enquiry every 1.3 seconds! Fleet managers must take this issue seriously and consult with their Broker to ensure they do not become the next statistic in this increasingly concerning area.
